Murder Mystery Dinner Party Menu idea's?!

Question: I am planning a murder mystery dinner party for under 20 people. It is set in modern day with some famous people from the 20's transported through time to now. Mae West, Agatha Christie, T.S. Elliot WC Fields, Charlie Chaplin, Georgia O Keefe and more are suspected of murdering HG Wells for accidentally transporting them through time. I'm trying to decide 1920's fare or modern dinning? Elegant or finger foods.

If you have the room for a sit down dinner for 20 go ahead. otherwise I'd stick to finger foods that are easy to eat standing. they can still be elegant. have little croissant sandwiches with different fillings, stuffed tomatoes and mushrooms, some kind of pasta maybe. fancy vegetable trays(you can go online and find cool ideas for display), mini quiches, and maybe a mini dessert bar with little eclairs and cream puffs. maybe come up with creative names for your dishes and label them relating to your theme. use nice table cloths, you can use phone books to elevate some dishes to make your table look more decorative (put another tablecloth over when done with layers) put some flower tops scattered among the food dishes or some kind of mystery props (magnifying glass, a smokeing pipe, bloody knife..) for a nice look. do a martini bar.

I think you should definately go elegant. Have all your guests dress up to be their part. Put out little name cards with the person that they have.

Your party plans are good and exciting.I go for the finger food servings.Would serial killers or murderers have the luxury of time eating at a formal dining? If your setting is in the modern world, it's more fascinating to serve finger foods and cocktails. Your choice of murderers should taste the fast paced world they are in.It is also cool to set the mystery mood with a music mix of the 20's and the techno sounds. The party should not be bloody or horrifying because all of those murderers are gathered in one place to chill out with others and not plan for a next scheme.

I'd say go elegant and classy.

Have a table with bits and peices for guests to snack on when they are feeling peckish.

You could have salad arranged on plates
wine
(For under age people have punch)
Ham would be classy
Maybe sandwhiches too?

Hello, i am in the process of developing a "classy party" site (sadly its not up yet for you), but i will have a whole theme dedicated to Murder Mystery Parties!

I would say 1920's fare might be fun! But, modern may be easier. You can go for slightly elegant finger foods (finger sandwiches, and appetizers).

1920's fare is such a unique idea! But remember, it was in the 1920's when Prohibition went into effect! (if you are a purist ;), and i believe Chinese food was popular during that time as well. (which would be both easy, and modern-but perhaps not what your going for). It depends on the crowd, but i would go for a twist of both old, and new.

check out some sites on food timelines, and party sites for ideas. Good luck!
