My son wants to have a music themed party does anyone have any ideas that might help me plan and set up for it!

Question: you can make some decoration with music notes made from cardboard. It is easy to draw or print any pattern from the net and then cut. you can decorate them with gleamy items like papers or glitter and hang them from the walls or ceiling.

the invitation cards may also be done in the shape of a music note or guitar, drum, piano, etc ( or a mix of all).

you can use catchy phrases related to the theme for the invitations like lets rock this day or some like that. You can get more phrases from the net. just google for them.

You can also get some music quotes that you think are good from the net and write them on banners and hang them all around the house.

You can make a good cake by making a music note cake or guitar cake. Those are easy shapes that you can cut out from a rectangular or square sponge cake. you can cover the cake with any buttercream or frosting that you can make or just get from the supermarket.
(www.wilton.com is a good site for making your own cakes)

Or you can make individual cupcakes and decorate them with music notes with royal icing or buy some music items from a store that you can stick into the cupcakes top afterwards and they can also act as souvenirs.

here you can get some ideas. in this page they have a tie with music notes, may be you can buy it for your son. http://store.drumbum.com/skuMSC-121.html
http://store.drumbum.com/skuMGN-16.html
they also have magnets and lots of items that you can check out on the left side menu.
here you have rock and roll party ideas for themes http://www.partyrama.co.uk/mcp/Rock_and_...
and http://www.chiff.com/entertain/theme.htm
and http://ezinearticles.com/?Theme-Party-Mu...

good luck

You didnt say how old he is, that leaves us with not a lot to go on.

I'll assume he's 19, get a famous band to play in your back garden, that should keep him happy

I did this once for my daughter but not sure your son would feel the same but here it goes... We did an hawaiian theme and my husband built a wooden stage in front of our picture window and the kids danced on it and we had everything hawaiian, and the girls had hawaiian skirts, lei, necklaces and the boys wore the bandanas on their heads and we had all the hawaiian food, punches and it turned out to be so much fun for them.( I went to one of those party stores and bought the grass skirts and hawaiian pictures, etc to build the party theme)

Guitar Hero!!!

If your in Union County NC or anywhere near email me and I can get you the name of a band who would love to play for your son.
Thanks :-)

Consider hiring a DJ. A good Disc Jockey can provide anything from country to swing to Kid Rock and anything in between. Hire a local band....you can usually find one at the local clubs or underage clubs if your child is a teen. For decoration go online to Kipp Brothers or Shindiz.com they have complete lines of party decoration for any age group. I have used them for alot of my kids party and believe me this house has seen some awesome parties. everything from cast parties to end of school year.

kind of depends on the age of your son.
I suggest you get either:
A band
A DJ
Or
Karaoke machine

Fun decorations could be hanging old 45's or albums from strings or on a "music" wall. some kids wont have a clue what they are. LOL

I know most party stores have musical notes as decorations you can get as well.

Perhaps that can get you started on some ideas. Good luck

if you want to keep a low budget, you might consider turning your own living room into a 80's disco or a karaoke bar...both easy to do....

get a karaoke machine or have a lot of different musical instruments available for the kids to be a band! have everyone dress up as a rock star or singer. you can make it an American Idol theme. play Guitar Hero (it's super fun for any age!) use sheets of music as wrapping paper, make cut outs of music notes for decoration, make big speakers out of boxes, have a stage area set up with some floor lamps as lighting, have the kids put on a performance. musical chairs? play name that tune, see if there are any trivia games in the store for the age group based on music. give away dollar store items for party favors- harmonicas, recorders, whistles, or if older kid have him make a personalized CD of his favorite songs for his friends. get some posters of singers to hang up, have a music note shaped cake.
