Excellent idea! I love Christmas parties, and am planning on hosting one myself this year. You should find a good party idea site, (i am in the process of creating one myself ;), focus on budget, number of people, you can find great and classy recipes at a number of sites (finger foods are best), if your budget allows, hire a bar tender for mixing drinks, or make 1-2 mixed drinks in a huge batch, prior to party so you dont have to deal with tending the bar. (Or just have wine). I like buttered rum, or spiced wine, or sangria.. they are great and can make ahead of time. Music- you could do period music depending on your theme (look for old hollywood or old school Christmas music - this site has a vintage christmas cd: http://cdbaby.com/cd/atcc). My favorite all time holiday party music is Charlie Brown Christmas by Vince Guaraldi (classic, but from the 60's).

Games: a Yankee Swap is so fun! (my family did one for years, and it can be a good alternative to buying each person gifts!) http://www.yankee-swap.net/

Good luck! :) And, come visit my site (in a month or so) for more ideas....

you can have opposite Christmas party! have a luau! you can call it Christmas in July / July in Christmas. have all kinds of summer foods and summer games, decorate your tree with summerie stuff like flip flops and butterflies. have Caribbean music and tiki torches, folding chairs in your living room, beach towels as chair covers, whatever you have that's summer. 1920's might be a little hard for people to dress up as.
