Any ideas for entertaining guests after dinner?!

Question: I have 4 friends coming over to my apartment for Thanksgiving dinner. I have no problem with the cooking part. The problem is keeping my guests entertained...after the meal. I have not entertained in a very long time, and I feel nervous. I'm always great as an attending guest at somebody else's place, but am nervous as a host for my own dinner party. I'm nervous about how to keep them entertained after dinner, so they don’t get bored in my apartment. People get easily bored in an apartment if they are not entertained.

Any body got any ideas? Any games I can buy? Card games? Any advice would be well appreciated.

well it really depends on what your guests/friends are like, some may like karaoke, watchin movies or card games, but there are some who cant or wont sing, or are frequent movie goers and might probably have seen the movie u rented or dont like playing card games.

but then again, it is always difficult to please everyone. make sure your activities suit the number of people eg you wont set up a mahjong table (sorry im asian; this is the 1st game i would think for myself) which only 4 people can play if there is 5 of you. if u want to rent movies, rent 2-3 so people can chose. have a variety of activities available so that if 1 doesnt like a particular activity, he/she can do another.

if u live in a city or town-ish area, u guys could also head out for say light/window shopping, a nice bar/coffee house to chill out etc..

good luck! and hope everyone enjoys themselves!

hey thanks!
another idea just popped into my head since u said u were guys. if u were into gaming (and there were enough PCs in your house or each of them were OK to bring their laptop if any), u all could set up lan gaming arena and play your fav multiplayer games available! Report It

  • There are many things you can do:

    * Eat desert!
    * Watch movies or the Thanksgiving Day parade.
    * Play twister or charades, maybe some board games.
    * If there will be liquor, then you can play drinking games.
    * My all time favorite is karaoke!

    Football or Charades

You could watch a movie. Playing a game is a great idea too, we like the game Mexican Train, it is fun and easy to explain

Are they close friends that you haven't seen in a while? If they are, how about old photographs. That will usually strike up a good conversation and some laughs.

have desert tray for AFTER dinner, in the lounge area of your home and also along with the relaxed deserts which could be a mixture of lots of small sweet things bring out a tray of different desert wines with smallest glasses you can find, so everyone can sample each different wine, and serve this while playing an assortment of short video clips of times when you have been together with family and friends. of other holiday events. you'll be amazed at how the time will fly. HAPPY THANKSGIVING

play monopoly, roll back the carpet, move the furniture and turn on some good dance music and dance....or involve all guests into making something sweet, cookies or muffins and take them to a senior rest home or nursing home and pass out the goodies to the seniors.........

After dinner is done, let everyone help put away food and get things into the dishwasher. Once the kitchen is cleaned up everyone can relax. Have some coffee going and bring out the dessert things -- and you can certainly ask if anyone wants to contribute a dessert to bring and share. Offer to turn on the football game and haul out some nice wine or beer to serve. If everyone is of the same gender they might go for a good DVD movie - adventure if guys, chick flick for gals. Keep it comfortable and low-key. If you are into video games that might be fun too, or have a puzzle going on in a corner that might attract some interest.

I just played a pop-culture trivial pursuit DVD game at a party and it was a riot...have some after-dinner drinks and dessert and pop the DVD in to play.
