Can you give me some tips on entertaining approximately 200 people at a Christmas BBQ in the park?!

Question: This year I volunteered to plan and organize a Christmas BBQ for 150-200+ people. I have already reserved the venue and hired a grilling team to prepare and serve the food. Mostly I’m concerned with how to entertain 200 adults and children for four hours.

I would greatly appreciate any advice you can share with me.

P.S. “Christmas BBQ” probably sounds strange to those of you that are already shoveling snow, but where I live at we have 360 days of sunshine per year!

You don't need to rub it in : )

Of course you need a santa, perhaps a reindeer, a digital camera and printer. For the kids you might like to have some area where they can decorate picture frames. Use cardboard boxes or cereal boxes.

Also get one of those all in one sports bags. I bought one at Dick's earlier in the summer. It had a net for badmitton, volleyball, a whiffle ball and bat and stuff for horseshoes.

Another thing that you can do is buy a few decks of cards. Whether your group likes to play spades, poker, tunk, etc. It doesn't matter. Set up a few game tables. Chess and checkers always go over well too.

I also think that music is pretty important during an event. A DJ is generally the best option, but it might be difficult on Xmas day or too expensive. If that's the case, gather all the boom boxes you can and have different types of music all around in different areas. Also, if it's in your budget get a dance floor, at least the kids will make fools of themselves.

-Get a Santa and a Polaroid camera
-Have everyone bring a white elephant gift, and divide people up into small groups.
-Have different stations for different crafts like ornament making, or cookie decorating etc...
- Show christmas movies like a Christmas Story, Home Alone, Grinch etc...
- Have everyone bring there favorite board game to share.

For the most part the adults will all catch up with each other. For the kids I would rent from a company that has items such as a bouncy house. They usually have a wide range of items to choose from.

What a daft idea.

A Mexican theme, with colorful hanging lanterns, pinatas, etc. Appropriate games.

Drink a couple of margaritas before the event, so you can get through it.

For the kids you should get a santa dude and have him playing with the kids like a clown does. For the adults, maybe have a couple of games or contests. Like pie or ham eating contest, or get a couple of volleyball nets and a soccer ball or football and have a couple of contest games...and just get some bogus funny gag gifts for them or maybe the prizes could be gift cards or a turkey of ham giveaway. Good luck!!!

ummmm ...... D????

could i come?
