When you are invited to a dinner party, is it impolite to ask what's on the menu?!

Question: I offered to bring a dish and my host suggested "a salad" but I'm not sure what kind of salad will complement the rest of the meal.

Answers: I offered to bring a dish and my host suggested "a salad" but I'm not sure what kind of salad will complement the rest of the meal.

A green salad will work with any dinner, and yes, it's impolite to ask. Just go ahead and have fun. Heck...some one else is cooking dinner! :)

Not if you want to get that salad right. I hope this is the worst thing you ever have to worry about. Good luck.

when you're offering to bring a dish along I don't think it's impolite to ask for the theme or what's for dinner. It just make sense like you said to bring a salad that will complement the rest of the meal.

again it makes sense also to find if anyone have any known food allergies (i.e. nuts, etc...)

Make a fuss about a dinner you did'nt get what you want, sometimes children are the factor.

I don't think it would be impolite. It shows you are interested and excited about what is being served ,and want to contribute to the 'success' of the meal.Good luck!

i dont think its impolite if u have any food allergies or something u cant eat. in this case i think its probably unnecessary a green salad goes with pretty much anything.

No, always ask!..I was invited to a dinner once(only once) It was really nice..formal..NASCAR themed....with fresh roadkill possum pot pie..i walked in wearing a John Deere tee shirt.. I stuck out like a turd in a punch bowl.......

if you ask them the theme of the dinner ie asian, european it is certainly no impolite. you have to make something that will compliment the rest of the meal, you don't want to bring a nicoise salad to an asian feast :)
I don't think it is rude anyway. I have food allergies so I always ask what is on the menu so I know if I need to prepare something to bring :)

Yes it would be impolite to ask. Make a normal green salad.

It is considered impolite. If she didn't offer up what she's serving be safe and bring a green salad of some kind, with a dressing so the host can dress the salad before serving it.
