Question: Do a potluck instead. Assign someone else to bring the drinks. Make a bird, a roast, or a bunch of kick-*** nachos and let everyone else contribute. Fun themes we do are Italian, Mexican, Finger-Foods only, and various fruit themes like Berries Only or Apples Only.

A big pot of stew made with wine. Cheese, crusty bread and such. Some appetizers and mulled wine. Vodka in the freezer and juices. Cookies.The music cannot be Jimmy Buffet.

Much easier than BBQ. Plus people want something more special at Christmas than BBQ..... it does not denote Christmas.
