Answers: I want to open up a small soul food resturant how would I go about doing it someone please help.

I am a former chef and from Canada, so the US issues are a bit different, before and business is to be opened, the location is important, is the area you are considering an area were a Soul Food restaurant would be sucessful.

The other suggestions are good, have a plan, write a business outline, talk to other places in the same neighbourhood, and I would also look in to the used or second hand equipment, next to the food and salarys for workers that is you biggest investment.

You may want to talk to a business consultant, and work out a plan, and determine the amount of money you are willing to spend first. A mock or simulated setup, figuring the area, size of restaurant, after checking the equipment prices, figure how many people you will employ and build a sample menu, and even talk to food suppliers for costs and the costing of the menu items.

It may seem like a long laundry list of steps, but if after sitting down figuring it all out, finding a good location and financing is available. The the real work will start. I opened 3 places with others not as an investor but the star chef, 2 made it a go for 5+ years, the one a takeout seafood place like a pizza delivery deal folded in 2 years, no one want a lobster dinner at there door and pay $35.00.

Write up a business plan to present to your investors.

The bank or the investors will want to see a business plan. This is a large document that explains all details of the business, how it will be run, and what type of profits you expect to see from the business.

The SBA can help you with writing up a business plan.

You need a business plan....go to your local SBA (Small Business Association) and see what they can help you with. The chamber of commerce would be a big help there too.

-Em

find some land
register the company name

also a book might be bigger help to you
for ex. opening a small business for dummies

My advice would be hire someone that has opened a restaurant before, and have them help you.

Like any business you'll have to create a business plan to assist in getting financing.

Go to the library and get some books on running your own business. Contact SCORE, which is Service Corps of Retired Executives. These are retired executives from commerce and industry who volunteer their time to help small new businesses.

Be ready to work harder than you ever had in your life. Top chef Anthony Bourdain says you really have to love the restaurant and working at it because it's very hard work and long hours.

It is a very diificcult thing to do ,to save money to collext 2nd hand furniture and equipment ,also tey doing it at galas fetes and fairs first to try and guage how people like your food.
good luck

Whoa, big, difficult undertaking!

First you'd have to find a facility to buy or rent. Then you'd need to work on the decor and work areas while putting in applications for licenses. Your next expense will be for the serviceware and supplies, and then you need to get a contract with your food suppliers. Finally, you hire and train a staff, send out announcements of the opening to all the local newspapers and magazines and trend-setters, and work long, hard hours.

If you haven't had enough restaurant experience to know the details of each of these steps, do yourself a favor and don't try!

I'd read a few books about business in general, such as "Cashflow Quadrant," "Good to Great," "One Minute Manager," "How to Win Friends And Influence People," and "Never Eat Alone."

Then forget everything you just learned, find somebody that is currently running a restaurant, and ask them how they do it. :)

im sorry, but dont.long hours, employees who dont turn up and the taxman
