No. Wasabi is japanese horseradish while mustard is, well, mustard. you can add some prepared horseradish to mustard and the taste will be similar. or you can get mustard with horseradish (forgot the brand). Try looking for different varieties of mustard other than old French yellow "american" mustard at the grocery. You can find similar if not the same product that your Dad used.

wasabi is horderadish....................mustard is mustard

Of course not, wasabi is kinda like the cooking equivalent to horse radish! ;)

Mustard is from the mustard plant (from India), Wasabi is Japanese Horseraddish. American horseraddish is white, but you can buy it chopped fresh (in the seafood dept) and mix a little (very little if you don't like it too hot) into your spicy brown mustard and it will taste a lot like your old favorite.

Wasabi is a plant root, mustard is from seeds. They are almost similar in taste except wasabi is spicier and mustard is slightly sour. Horseradish is a better replacement for wasabi.

Wasabi is Japanese horseradish.
Mustard comes from the mustard seed.
