What are your opinions on sushi? Which is best?!
Answers: I've just now started eating sushi...mostly with cooked meats like chicken and the califoria rolls. I would like to try the spicy tuna or salmon rolls. The only thing I'm concerned about is the texture...does it feel like you're chewing on flesh? I guess it is raw protein. And one last thing, what does pickled eel taste like? I'm interested in hearing about your favorites and dislikes. Thanks!
If you're just starting out, try the "unagi".. its barbequed Eel... and its amazingly delicious.
Give the raw stuff a go.. but start small.. get a tuna roll. If you can deal with the texture, then you can pretty much try anything and you're sure to like it.
and leave the "pickled eel" alone. Just.. don't.
And no, eating sushi isn't like chewing on flesh, but its definitely different than anything I've ever eaten. You just gotta go for it. Flavor shouldn't be an issue.. just texture. The best sushi (meaning fresh) doesn't taste "fishy" .. that's why sushi is so good!
Have fun!
I'm with you: California rolls
mmmmmm, sushi. I love sushi:)
I prefer salmon rolls, they are really good.
I think the only good sushi is the fish ones.
Try them
I love Uni - (sea urchin) but it's an acquired taste.
California rolls are good for newbies.
Sashimi - Halibut is my favorite.
Spicy Tuna Rolls!
Giant clam sashimi!
Yellowtail rolls are not my favorite but my husband loves them.
Salmon Roe sushi! the big red fish eggs! So tasty!
I like the more exotic stuff.
Oyster shooters!!!
I don't like mackerel it's got a fishy taste.
I'm getting hungry now - I have to stop!
Unagi, Toro, Maguro are all good choices, either as Nigiri(what most people think of when they think sushi) or as Makki(rolls)
AVOID the UNI. trust me.
Tekka Maki is also tasty.
I started off like you, with the Calif rolls and i really liked them. I got as far as a salmon roll with some little, red caviar mixed in--super yum. Then I had sashimi (raw fish over rice) and couldn't get past it. I've been told the proper way to eat sushi/sashimi is to put the whole thing in your mouth in one bite. I don't care to put that much food in my mouth at one time, so I found it kind of gross. The sashimi I had were kinda big, a little larger than a Mounds bar section. My mouth felt over-stuffed with a wad of rubbery meat and it weirded me out. I'm back to C-rolls. I really do like my sushi with a dot of wasabi paste, though. Eat a piece of pickled ginger in between to cleanse your palatte--it's really refreshing.
