What is your traditional Christmas Eve and Christmas day meals?!

Question: I'm Italian-American and Christmas Eve we have "The Feast of the Seven Fishes" symbolizing the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. We serve 7 different types of fish dishes.

Christmas day, it's homemade pasta (lasagna, ravioli, or manicotti) meatballs, sausage & braciole. THEN the standing rib roast, mashed potatoes, asparagus, salad. Tiramisu and Christmas cookies for dessert.

Then I'll roll everyone out the door and crash in exhaustion!

Yeah I know what you mean! I'm from Sicily and your Christmas sounds like ours. I'm actually out shopping for a ponatone this weekend. I'm making a bread pudding with an italian twist with a amaretto sauce. I made it last year and it was easy and hit check it out!

Sauce:
1/2 cup whipping cream
1/2 cup whole milk
3 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup amaretto liqueur
2 teaspoons cornstarch
Bread Pudding:
1 (1-pound) loaf panettone bread, crusts trimmed, bread cut into 1-inch cubes
8 large eggs
1 1/2 cups whipping cream
2 1/2 cups whole milk
1 1/4 cups sugar

To make the sauce: Bring the cream, milk, and sugar to a boil in a heavy small saucepan over medium heat, stirring frequently. In a small bowl, mix the amaretto and cornstarch to blend and then whisk into the cream mixture. Simmer over medium-low heat until the sauce thickens, stirring constantly, about 2 minutes. Set aside and keep warm. (The amaretto sauce can be made 3 days ahead. Cover and refrigerate. Rewarm before serving.)
To make the bread pudding: Lightly butter a 13 by 9 by 2-inch baking dish. Arrange the bread cubes in the prepared dish. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, cream, milk, and sugar to blend. Pour the custard over the bread cubes, and press the bread cubes gently to submerge. Let stand for 30 minutes, occasionally pressing the bread cubes into the custard mixture. (Recipe can be prepared up to this point 2 hours ahead. Cover and refrigerate.)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Bake until the pudding puffs and is set in the center, about 45 minutes. Cool slightly. Spoon the bread pudding into bowls, drizzle with the warm amaretto sauce, and serve.

Hmmm your Christmas day food sounds yummy. My mom cooks turkey and all the stuff we eat for Thanksgiving. Funny, since everybody is always all turkey-ed out from last month.

wow thats the most delicious meal i've heard of! yummy...
i guess we're kinda boooring..im half asian but for some reason we make american food. Basically a second thanksgiving run but instead of turkey we pick something else such a whole chicken, ham or roasted duck.

Girl...who cares!!!

Will you marry me?

I am in love with your old-school self. My grandmother Conjet, from Naples, would be proud.

We have baked ham.

I'm, American.... Thanksgiving was our big meal day.
Christmas in my family was mostly for receiving and giving presents, but also a day when my father got to act like a spoiled kid and drive everyone in the house crazy. Honestly, your Christmas sounds better.
And give me a Galliano and Orange Juice with it, please?

I am planning to make the traditional estonian christmas dinner this year: potato salad, sauerkraut with pork, cranberry jam with blood sausage (it may sound bad, but it's actually really good!), jellied meat, gingerbread.. that's not all, but I haven't figured what else I am going to make yet.

Christmas Eve is Dover Sole Amondine with green beans & scalloped potatoes, Green salad, & Creme Caramel.

Christmas Day is Turkey & Ham with two different stuffings, thick gravy, Mashed potatoes, (Brussel Sprouts & Peas, Carrots & Turnip & more potatoes oven roasted. Cup of Homemade chicken soup, Garden Salad & Chocolate cake (Yule Log) for dessert.

All with beverages of choice from water to liquors.

Our Christmas Eve tradition doesn't consist of a special dinner - we usually make comfort foods or order exotic take out. (this year I want Mongolian or Thai) & the rest of the night is spent baking. Cookies, cakes, pies, savory breads, dessert breads - anything you can imagine. ((We also try to go out to look @ Christmas lights))

As far as our Christmas meal is concerned - it's similar to Thanksgiving in our house - marinated (savory) turkey breast, smoked/glazed (sweet) salmon, homemade rolls/bread, roasted white potatoes, sweet potato cassarole, cabbage, baked macaroni & cheese - banana pudding, carrot cake, cheese cake & apple cobbler. (NOTING: absolutely everything is made from scratch, no box mixes only cookbooks & secret family recipes)

Tamales, rice, beans, and salads. For desert, pan de dulce, and apple pie.

Same here - we are Sicilian. Either I make the fish separately or in a sauce Sopa De pesci. I make home made Cannoli and or Sfengi. Christmas day is stuffed roast beef and Stuffed shells or lasagna. Lets not forget New Years eve - home made pizza and sausage bread to have at mid night.

We are going up north to spend the holidays with our daughter & her family. I don't know what she's planning to cook, but your meal sounds scrumptious! hmm mm mm!

Tamales, then more tamales. Oh yeah, rice, beans, and salads, and Christmas cookies and sweets.
