What is traditional sushi?!

Question: I've heard lots of people say there is authentic, traditional sushi, which is quite healthy, and then there is Americanized "yuppie" sushi, which can actually be loaded with calories and bad fats. How do I know which is which?

Traditional Japanese sushi is seasoned rice, fresh fish or seafood, vegetables, seeds, egg, nori, in all different combinations.Americanized sushi is any kind that includes cream cheese or dairy products, mayo, avocado, meats. A lot of American sushi has names like "California roll, Philadelphia roll, Mexican roll". Categories of sushi are becoming blurred because some "American" sushi's are now crossing back and being available in Japan.

well, with authentic sushi they use way more vinegar.

To the Japanese, the California roll is not real sushi. i still think they're delicious.

i've never heard of "yuppie" sushi, though i'm sure something like it exists. we bastardize everything. i would suggest always going to an actual japaneese sushi chef and don't buy the stuff from places like Public or any chain restaurant.

Well friend Traditional Sushi is made with nori and has a distinct flavor, Oriental to be exact. The "Yuppie" Sushi are known as California rolls. They are cut like traditional but they are made with California ingredients, avocado, bean sprouts, etc.
