Does anyone know the different spices for Portuguese spice mix?!

Question: The spices used in Portuguese desserts often used are cinnamon and vanilla.
Saffron, garlic, coriander and parsley are widley used...as well as piri piri (small fiery chili peppers) and olive oil.
These different ingredients are used variably in their dishes.

Look at the links to give you an idea of their main cuisine.

However, the first link is a site where you will find certain ′seasoning′ mixes (SPICY PORTUGUESE SEASONING 200ML, MARINA BRAAI SALT 400G, MARINA BRAAI SALT WITH PEPPER, ROBERTSONS PORTUGUESE CHICKEN REFILL, etc....)

Hope that helps.

As far as I know there is no such thing as a "Portuguese" spice mix, on thing they do like to use is a peri peri sauce or piri piri sauce, this is a hot pepper sauce that uses very hot birds eye chilis, they also like to use a lot of garlic in their food, paprika, capsicum or sweet peppers. I have seen they also add a lot of lemon juice to chicken dishes.

I think you will find the portuguese spice mix is a commercial spice companies interpretation of what they think should be in it.

I have a portuguese cook book written by Mimi Jardim that explores Portugal and gives recipes from all over Portugal and each recipe has its own characteristic ingredients that mirror the produce available there. It is a great read and some very interesting combinations.

Good Luck
