Have you ever eaten Italian beef? Where is the best place to get this food?!

Question: I lived in Chicago most of my life and enjoyed this on a regular basis. Then moved to San Antonio where most of the food is mediocre at best unless it is Tex-Mex. Most of my friends there had never HEARD of Italian beef unless someone was making a sexual joke about one their Italian friends.
1.Where do you live and have you ever had this?
2.Where is the best place to get this food, particularly in Chicago as I have just moved back here?!

You are making me hungry! A hot Italian beef sandwich is one of my favorite things to eat in Chicago. If you want to make them at home, you can buy the sliced beef by the pound with a quart of jus at Rosario's on Pulaski street...
8611 S Pulaski Rd
Chicago, IL 60652-3632
Phone: (773) 585-0660

Pick up some good Italian sandwich rolls and what ever trimmings you like.

Rosario's is a great deli that also sells sandwiches made to order.

I'm in Kansas City, my in-laws live in Chicago. I'm so glad I have Rosario's beef in my freezer. I know what I'll be making to eat tomorrow while watching football!

I didn't know any chicks named beef, but I did eat this italian chick named rosa once.

I love Italian beef - I grew up in the Chicago area and the best Italian beef I had was at the Quonset Hut in Waukegan. I now live in Boston and they have no clue as to what it is so I make my own.

Portillo's has GREAT Italian beef - and you can find them in Chicago... here's a link for you....

I live in the Chicago area, too - enjoy!

I am married into an Italian family in Canada and beef is beef. Preferred is veal but beef & pork are there as well as chicken, especially ground for some of the pasta dishes. Usually, the meat course is served after the pasta with salad.

Look for Genoa salami or Mortadella or Capicolla for cold cuts in your appetizer platter along with olives, artichokes, mushrooms, roasted eggplant, roasted peppers ..must have fresh crusty Italian bread or rolls.

There are a lot of Italians in Chicago and there are good neighbourhoods, with butchers, bakers and produce.

I don't know Chicago very well but in Detroit it's all there.
