What age did you get into cooking?!


Question: 10. I had no choice, my mom passed away and taught by dad since I am the only girl in the family. Had to grow up fast and I was told that I am excellent cook. :)))))

11,been at it for over 40 yrs. DANG! Thats more yrs than I like to admit.

i started when i was 7

Fourteen years of age.

when I was like 12-13... my parents went away for business a lot, so I had to learn to cook early to survive :)

Prior to getting married, I was only able to make snack foods like fudge, cookies, and popcorn (age 11). My mom didn't appreciate my skills in HER kitchen.
My husband fortunately loved to cook, and taught me all about gourmet cooking!
Oh, I forgot! I could cook complete meals by the age of twenty. I was definitely a late bloomer!

first rest. job at 12

Maybe around 8-10 yrs with the easy recipes, but by 14 yrs I was making full course Indian dinners for my family. I have already introduced my 5yr old son, he was helping me make puris last night (he ate most of them too!).

Seven. I started with food preparation and learned how to peel potatoes, scrape carrots & cut turnips. Most of the teaching was to make sure I could handle the knife properly and to ensure I didn't cut myself too often. I was in the kitchen when they food was being prepared and watched & listened also did a lot of pot stirring. Started really serious cooking with recipe books about eleven onwards. I have always liked food, good food is better, love cookbooks (even just reading them for ideas). Learning to cook with the microwave was a bit of a challenge so I went to microwave cooking school for 4 days (sent my 10 year old sons to learn as well as I didn't want them using the stove while I was out) there is a great deal more to microwaves than defrosting & heating up. My sons went through high school earning money as short order cooks in a restaurant, some evenings, Saturdays & Sunday Brunches.(not high end but not a chain restaurant either and they learned a lot from the chefs there). The didn't get into the culinary profession but they are both very good cooks.

I was 10 I started by making pancakes. At 16 I was a dishwasher learning prep work in a restaurant. At 17 I was a fry cook at 19 I was a second cook learning steak cutting & cooking to order on the line. by 20 I was scratch baking and preping and sautee' At 21 I had my first job as Head Chef. I have been a chef for 28 years. Now I am a food service director. I run the whole food service. I am responsible for everything including all of the cooking.

at 14, when i started on my home economics.

Although I started cooking about age 8, I didn't get "into" cooking until I had someone to appreciate my talents! :) That would be about age 39!

I was helping in the kitchen at about 12,, mashing potatoes etc
I did a full turkey Thanksgiving dinner at 15..
I over cooked and the meat fell off just sticking the fork in
it was beautiful brown and delicious in chunks...?

First baking at 5 then cooking arround 8

i was 9 years old when i started cooking for my family of 5 by myself.....my dad worked and went to college and my mom had 2 & sometimes 3 jobs....we werent poor ~ my parents were just ambitious....when they die me, my brother, my kids and his kid will be well taken care of for the rest of our lives....i took interest in cooking, my brother was younger than me and my sister, who is older, cant boil water to save her life....been cooking ever since and i love it

I think it was in middle school making omelets.

at 18, when I moved out of home........

I was 15 when I went to a vocational high school for culinary arts...

I learned around 13 but only fell in love with it around 22.
Now I need to find a way to make a living at it!!!!

I was always helping in the kitchen for as long as I can remember. But I think I was 7 or 8 when I could cook an entire meal from scratch. Mind you, my repertoire was limited, but at 8 I could cook better than a lot of my friends can at 30!
