Are there any non-asians that can make chinese food from scratch and it tastes pretty authentic?!

Question: I have a female friend that is caucasian but she cooks chinese food better than any chinese person that I've met (parents included). Incredible talent...I was wondering if there are any non-asians out there who can make chinese food from scratch and if so what can you make?

I can. It's pretty good, too. I can take whatever I find in the fridge and turn it into some authentic stir-fry. I find that I have specialized, so to speak, in the spicy chicken dishes such as General Tso's chicken and Sesame chicken (my favorite)..

What's yours?

do you mean chinese food or oriental looking food ? there is a huge diff. in the 2. many chinese rest don't even cook authentically they cater to the " foreigners " taste . ask your friend if she's talented or knowledgable ??

The best Chinese food cooks are all Mexicans!

Yes. I make darn good soups (Miso, Wan Ton, egg drop), stir- fry, sushi, fried rice and Ma Pao Tofu.

As a general note to foreign friends, it is important to know whether in the first place what you have eaten is authentic Asian food. Many non-Asians have gone through their whole lives eating at their local Chinese/Asian restaurants without realising they are not eating genuine ethnic food.

As an ex-overseas student, I was surprised by the kind of food being passed off as Asian food in ethnic restaurants. Once, I hosted an elderly Caucasian couple who came to my country on holiday and treated them to local food. They were totally blown away by authentic Asian food & realised they had been eating pseudo-Asian food back home all their lives.

Also, need to know the differences between Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai etc food.
