Jujubes originate as small dried Asian dates. And were popular long ago as a "sweet" much like raisins, prunes or figs are (were).

Some time later, the term was applied to small colored candy gum drops, and it remains.

These days, with so many new candy confections, things like Jujubes have become quaint traditional foods, and are not used so much as before.

Jujubes are often still used as an ingredient in certain recipes however, especially in the Orient.
