Has anyone ever made Aaloo before? (Indian Salsa)?!

Question: I need to make it for a visual aid for a project.I have to bring it Thursday and I was going to bring some chips to serve with it.I was just wondering does it taste good without the potatoes?Potatoes in salsa sounds kinda weird and nasty...And what is a good kind of chip to use with it?Would Pita Chips taste alright with it?Please help!

Aloo is the Indian word for potato. There are no Indian salsas, I am not really sure what you mean. As far as making a potato salsa to serve with chips is a carb nightmare and an odd combination.

Pita chips work well with hummus or baba ghanouj but that's not Indian, it's more Middle Eastern. India doesnt really have a "chip & dip" type of food. We eat samosas or pakoras with chutneys.

But here's an easy modern Indianized "salsa" you can use with chips: you can call it a "raita" (pronounced rye-ta, it's Indian salad). If you live near a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's, they sell papadums (like chips). Those would be great. Or go with the multi grain pita chips.

Red Onion Mango Raita: you can use pineapple or papaya (or a combination of fruits)

3 ripe mangoes, peeled and diced
1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves
1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint leaves
1 tablespoon chopped green onions
1 tablespoon chopped jalapeno (or serrano)
3 tablespoons lime juice
3 tablespoons fresh orange juice
1 teaspoon honey
1/2 tsp chaat masala (or you can use garam masala)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and let sit 30 minutes at room temperature to allow the flavors to combine. Then store in refrigerator until needed.
