If you eat enough spicy foods, will your body become accustomed to them?!

Question: I used to be able to eat jalapeno peppers like potato chips. I tried eating habaneros like that. It was a horrible experience the next day.(if you know what I mean) Ever since then, I can't eat the mild peppers anymore without it tearing me up. Did the habaneros kill my body's resistance to hot peppers? If I start eating the mild peppers alot, will I be able to eventually eat the hotter stuff again without being burned a 2nd time?

I've had the same problem and I asked my doctor about this he says there are some people that simply just have sensitive stomachs...if you eat spicy foods it will go right through you and have burning sensations. He said it's kinda like the lactose intolerant concept, some people just aren't suitable for spicy foods. Besides, he told me it's bad for your health if you consume too much

Ive noticed that also. But when i was younger i hated anything HOT!!Now i cant eat enough peppers.I will eat the whole jar of just hot peppers.
Doesnt bother me a bit.
i think as we age our taste buds change and your body also tells you what you need.Like i got sick ....and peppers really have some helping things in them helps body fight it off.
I dont know what causes it but its strange. Its like when we wouldnt eat green beans when young and now we do?

It wasnt the habaneros, your body was not good at that time.

Yes you can start eating mild peppers you will be able to eat hotter peppers. I love Habanero

you probably got sick for another reason
but if you try to eat the jalape?os again probably you would be able to eat the habanero too, especially if you are used to eat them before

i think as you get older you cannot eat the same way you used to eat when you were younger but then again i love spicy food and i am 43 and i can handle it so maybe if you start of slowely it will work unless you have ibs irratable bowel syndrome meaning spicy foods do not agree with your body anymore.if you go to a doctor he can better diagnose you.its eating certain kinds of food that do not agree with you that you used to eat all the time know it bothers you.you get stomache pain and cramps alot of gas.look it up on the internet ibs it will tell you the symptoms see if you have them.

i eat hot food all the time never had a problem

I think you will be fine, it might have been something else reacting. I find if I don't eat hot or spicy foods for awhile that I actually crave them.
