Since you are Indian, I assume you already know cilantro (dhania) and are referring to CULANTRO (a Mexican herb):

I dont think you will find any substitutes in India, just use dhania!

  • Cilantro is a fresh herb. If you don't have cilantro you can use corriander seeds if available. Cilantro is what corriander grows up to be.

    that is Cilantro it is a mexican/spanish herb. Espazote can be substituted. But that will be no easier for you to find.

    Cilantro is an herb used mostly in Mexico and the rest of Latin America.
    There are some companies now that produce dried cilantro.

    It has a strong fresh flavor.

    I suggest you try and get seeds for this wonderful tasting herb and produce your own. It can be done in a pot.

    It is used mostly fresh like parsley. On ceviches, and tacos.

    Cilantro is a fresh herb that looks very much like leafy Italian parsley, the flavour however is completely different.
    Although a favourite of chefs I personally do not like the flavour.
    Yes coriander seeds are the product of cilantro but, do not in any way taste the same as the leaf.
    You can always sub in parsley curly or the Italian variety, use any herb that is bright and fresh in flavour.

    Cilantro is a type of flat leaf parsley - depending on what you are making parsley can be substituted and you can add a bit of lemon grass to achieve a similar taste. Or ask a market if they have Rau Ram a popular spice from Vietnam it is the same as Cilantro. Good Luck!

    Cilantro is Spanish for coriander leaves. It is readily available called coriander both fresh and dried. You can generally substitute it for flat parsley which looks the same but doesn't have the pungent flavour.

    Fresh corriander is cilantro. They are just different names for the exact same herb. See if you can find it under that name, especially in markets that sell Asian ingredients.

    Don't substitute corriander seed. Though it is from the same plant, the taste is entirely different than the corriander/cilantro leaf.

    Fresh Cilantro/Corriander has a very distinctive flavor. Some people love it, some hate it. There is no other herb that tastes similar, but you can certainly another herb in your recipe if you can't get it. It will just have a different flavor.

    Cilantro is just a flat parsley. You can use parsley in place of it.

    cilantro is chinese parsley...... used widely in hispanic dishes.... very distinct flavor, no substitute for cilantro, and the dried version isnt very good...... fresh cilantro is really good, fresh flavor. not expensive at all. usually about $.89 a bunch a the grocery store.....

    Cilantro is "Hara Dhania". Also known as Coriander. Definitely no substitute for that!

    I am sure you have heard of hara dhania in Mumbai...lol!!
