Finding a thimble means you'll be a spinster (if you're a woman). I think finding a button, if you're a man, means you'll be a bachelor forever. So both are considered bad luck, because you'll never get married.

I am a former chef and "Blue Orchid" is right coins, thimbles and other small object are used, coins are for prosperity, thmble for thrift, and other symbols long life and good fortune.
