Anyone have a good recipe for Lumpia?!

Question: The one I know of is made with spring roll wrappers and is half beef, half pork, and has onions and carrots (and maybe more) in it. Could you also tell me what to look for on the labels - the Asian markets here only have a foreign language on their labels. Thanks! Merry Christmas!!!!

Lumpia (Filipino Egg Roll)

1 (20 count) package lumpia skins (or egg roll wrappers)
1/2 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork
1 cup green onions, minced
1 cup carrots, minced
1 cup celery, minced (same as above)
1 egg, beaten
4 tablespoons soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
Seal wrappers with with following mixture
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup water

Brown beef and pork, until almost completely cooked. Drain fat. Cool and process in food processor or chop up into fine pieces (like Taco Bell taco meat or a little coarser) with fork.
Combine meats, vegetables, egg, sauces, pepper in a large bowl. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour for flavors to set inches I like to prepare my filling the day before so it can marinate all night.
Prepare wrapper (by separating) and place on a separate plate. Place 1 to 2 T of filling in the center of the wrapper.
Fold left edge over all the way, then bring down top and bottom, then roll the rest of the way to the right, making a roll. hard to explain without a picture, but you'll figure it out -- looks like an egg roll when done, only thinner and longer. Seal with with flour and water mixture.
After you have assembled all the lumpia, heat your oil (I use the deep fryer) to 375 degrees. Cook until golden brown, turning often, approximately 3 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
Serve with sweet and sour sauce.
Note: the wrapper packages usually have instructions for rolling the wrap. Times vary by experience and methods used.

TA DA!!! Lumpia!!!!!!

I love Lumpia and now that you ask this i'm going to make some for Christmas! :) I looked up a recipe and the link is below.

THANKS FOR ASKING!

LUMPIA

1 - 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1 pkg. lg. carrots, shredded
2 cans French-style green beans
Onions, diced to taste
Salt, pepper & garlic powder to taste

Brown meat with onions and other desired seasonings and ingredients. Add both cans of green beans, it may be necessary to drain. Put lid on pan and cook down; let mixture cool. Separate several eggs and add the egg yolk to mixture. Place a teaspoon of mixture on egg roll wrapper and wrap, being sure to secure ends. Dip egg roll in egg white and cook immediately in hot fat at 375 degrees to seal, about 30 seconds. Allow to drain and cool. Can be frozen. Or, continue cooking until golden brown to eat right away. If frozen, allow to thaw slightly and deep fry at 375 degrees or hotter until done. If temperature of oil is too low, egg rolls will be soggy.

LUMPIA SAUCE:

In a small pan with a little water, dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of ginger and boil. Add 1 cup of water, with salt, 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 teaspoons vinegar, 1/4 cup sugar (taste), 3/4 c. catsup and 1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce and bring to a boil. Mix together 3 teaspoons of cornstarch and 4 teaspoons of cold water. Add this to boiling water, stirring. Correct seasoning. Serve cold with egg rolls. Makes approximately 80-100 egg rolls.

Hi there! You can make Lumpia with meat or vegetables as primary ingredients. Here are recipes for both.

In a bowl, mix a kilo of ground pork, 2 finely chopped onions, 4 cloves of finely chopped garlic, a finely chopped carrot, finely chopped celery, and finely chopped spring onions. Season with salt and pepper. Add 2 eggs and about a tablespoon of cornstarch or flour to hold everything together. You can also add about a cup of chopped shrimps. Mix very well. Wrap in spring roll wrapper and fry.

Veggie lumpia

In a pan, quickly saute mongo bean sprouts, onions, garlic, julienned carrot, shredded cabbage, and shrimps.Season with salt and pepper and a bit of oyster sauce. Let mixture cool and drain excess liquid. Wrap in spring roll wrapper and fry.

Here's a good sauce for your lumpia:
Mix 2 tbsp. of soy sauce, 1 1/2 tbsp. vinegar, a tsp. of sesame oil, salt, pepper, and put in chili flakes for some heat. That's it!

Basically that's how we make lumpia here in the Philippines.
Enjoy!

i prefer a healthy option:

use sprouted mung bean or swamp cabbage as filling in lumpia.

sometimes, we even fill it up with pancit.

Ok,,, you're probably that same persona that posted the Pancit question.

Anyway,, here's a great trick for someone who's throwin a party and wanna recycle that left over pancit you made the day before. Well,, try using the pancit as filling for your lumpia.....

Instant Thai Spring Rolls......... I tried this in the Philippines/Mother Land and it was a great success with the locals. They loved it.
