What is Sushi?!

Question: Is it fish or is it a type of rice?

Answers: Is it fish or is it a type of rice?

Sushi is rice! It is a VERY common mistake that it is raw fish but it is not! Although most sushi recipes have raw fish such as tuna and all different kinds of fish in it, but sometimes it just contains vegetables and sometimes it is wrapped in seaweed.
I was told the sushi rice they use in America is not at all the same as the ones in Japan but the taste is very close.
You want the real deal then you have to go to Japan.

Sushi is not raw fish. Sushimi is raw fish.

It is called sushi because of the rice. There are many things that can come in sushi....tuna, crab, crawfish, alligator, etc.....and they're all cooked. You can find sushi rolls with raw items in it, but it should tell you on the menu.

Sushi is a delicious combination of fish rolled in rice and seaweed, usually garnished with ginger. There can be different types of fillings, like vegetables or crab or salmon or even eel.

Technically, sushi is the rice. It is a starchy rice that has vinegar in it. The sushi is often placed on a seaweed wrapper, topped with vegetables and/or fish, and rolled. It is also served in little "fingers" and topped with fish (raw or cooked).

The raw fish is sashimi.
