Hispanic treat?!


Question: I'm looking for the name of this treat. They kinda remind me of funyuns in texture...but they look more like wheels with spokes...I'm pretty sure it's a hispanic treat...

they have a really mild flavor but i've had them when they cover them in some kind of hot sauce or lemon juice...

I don't know what they're called so I want to know what they are called...also if you could tell me how to make them that would be great too! Thanks!

They are called pasta para duros. You can buy them in mexican food stores. They are usually orange and shaped like wheels.

To cook them,all you have to do is deep fry them in either corn oil or peanut oil. They puff out and look like funyuns once they are ready.

After they are cooked place them on a plate with a paper towel to absorb the extra grease.

Serve with lime, salt, or hot sauce.

You are talking about chicharrones. Not to be confused with chicharrones that are fried pork fat. You can buy these either pre-cooked (puffy) or not. If they are not precooked, they look like little 2-D macaronis and you fry them up in oil so they puff up.

I'm not sure what they are made of -- I think some kind of corn base? I used to see them at the Latino markets and a good friend of mine from Mexico fries them up for her kids as a snack.

You can also cook them a few at a time in the microwave- then you don't have the fat from frying them......
