What food is/are grits?!

Question: Grits are coarsely ground corn. You use grits to make is a type of corn porridge. It is a common addition to Southern cuisine or soul food.

Grits are absolutely delicious i think - when prepared well - and they are really simple to prepare (kinda like making oatmeal)
In fact i remember one of the chefs on top chef was a victor in one competition when he included a recipe that was based on grits. http://recipes.bravotv.com/top_chef/seas...

Grits with a little butter and cheese, or just butter and salt are great with a egg and bacon breakfast. I think butter is key to making nice grits.

It is a dish served in the South for breakfast instead of hash browns. It is ground corn, or sometimes ground hominy (hominy is corn soaked in lye).

It is pretty tasteless, but is very good with melted butter and lots of hot sauce.

grits are white corn mashed and then usually fried

best damn food ever is what it is also the GEORGIA state food kinda like oat meal you can add anything to it some people like butter salt and pepper some like any flavor jelly i like mine with grape jelly and butter talk about some real good country cookin makes me miss my mama

similar in texture to cream of wheat. Made from ground corn (usually not great corn, either). Cooked up like porridge, but you can do a lot with it once it's cooked up.

Like everyone said about corn porridge . . .

I add . . . make it according to the directions of the box. Add a lump of butter, and a handful of grated cheese.

Eat. Swoon. :o)

The little packets of instant ones are good this way, too.

grits are the bomb!!! they are a ground up white hominy(corn) dehydrated and put in a box for you to rehydrate like malto meal. quite delicous with cheese or scrambled eggs or just butter and sugar...

grits
pl.n.
(used with a sing. or pl. verb)
1: A ground, usually white meal of dried and hulled corn kernels that is boiled and served as a breakfast food or side dish.
2: Coarsely ground grain, especially corn.

I think of it as the Polenta of the American South. Cooked the same way, varied with cheese, butter, cream. Kinda soupy when freshly cooked, the texture changes as it cools and it becomes more firm. Serve with American ham (not the square factory-made chemical-laden supermarket pack) or with salty greasy thick bacon strips. Sometimes the bacon grease is mixed with the corn as it is stirred in the pot.

Sort of corn stuff. I have it on good authority (my husband) that its bloody vile.
