Answers: heard its the most expensive spice. but how much can it cost?

yea its expensive in American stores but go to a middle eatsern market. You can get a small case which last me like 4 months for about $5

I was at some import store a few months ago and I saw a bottle with just a few twigs of the stuff in it. It cost I think around $50.00

its around $100.00 to $150.00 per ounce for saffron.

Yes, it is very expensive, but you would only use a tiny bit in recipes, click this link for recipe reading:

The Spice Hunter is a really reliable and affordable spice company that I like to use.

They are selling a 0.01 ounce bottle of Saffron for $11.54

I know this sounds expensive, but if I'm remembering right, it takes about 10,000 Saffron Crocus flowers to produce only 1 pound of saffron. Also, saffron has a pretty strong taste, and will only require a small amount to flavor your dishes.

Hope I have helped you.

I just bought some today because I plan on making Spanish rice tomorrow. I bought it from a grocery store in Chicago, and I paid $14.97 for .15 oz .

200,000 flowers have to be harvested by hand to obtain 1 pound of saffron - This may explain the high cost.

In Western countries the average retail price is approximately $1,000 per pound, however.
