Much Help Needed... Any Help Appreciated!!?!

Question: Can you tell me an example of an African's diet. Explained: I am doing a speech on poverty in Africa. I wish to bring in a food item, like a bag of rice, and say "An African Family Has To Live On This For 3 Weeks"... Or whatever, but I need that fact. Give me one and the source. Cheers.

Several months ago there was an article in National Geographic about and average family's monthly food cost and content. It showed a family in a number of different countries and showed what their typical food shopping looked like. There was at least one African family in that article. I cannot find the issue now, but will look when I am home tonight and give you the reference. In the interim, you may want to do a little internet research, I know this info is out there.

**Additional. Sorry it took me so long to find this article. And it was in Time Magazine. The article was a photo essay excerpted from the book Hungry Planet. There are photos of families from around the world with their weekly food. Go to http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,... to see the article and photos.

This would really depend on what part of Africa you are from. Egypt is in Africa, Ethiopia is and so is South Africa. Depends on where you are as to what you eat...there is no single "African" diet.

it depends on were you are hears a link with different foods in different regions

A book like Dorinda Hafner's "Taste of Africa" (available on amazon) will give you a good overview. We can't really help you on this topic because you are generalising so much. Not all of Africa is poor. Africa is a huge place, with many different cultures, climate, and therefore food crops. The staple food in some areas is rice, in others it is maize etc. If you want a "An African Family Has To Live On This For 3 Weeks" type of example, I suggest you look into the refugee camps. Those sort of statistics tend to be available for places like that, where humanitiarian organizations are operating. Try emailing one of them for information, if what you need isn't on their websites. It is your responsibility to do your own research. We don't mind providing hints, but we aren't going to do it for you.
