Represents the birth of Jesus.

The baby is actually in something called a King Cake. It's a big danish/coffee cake thing with colored sugar. It is traditionally eaten on Fat Tuesday which is the start of Mardi Gras. A small baby is baked in or inserted in the king cake. If you get the baby in your piece of cake it is supposed to mean good luck for the rest of the year. The person who gets the baby is also supposed to get the cake and throw the Fat Tuesday party next year. I get King Cakes every year, if you want to order one try KingKingCakes.com, I've been ordering from them for years.

Q-Mama got it!

i think it represents baby jesus usually they do it around christmas time i know the hispanic community does it..

WHAT THE HECK?????

In Switzerland this cake is served on the 6th of January in honour of the 3 holy kings. The person who finds the "Baby" ( symbol for Jesus) gets the crown which comes with the cakes and remains the King for the day.

King Cake didn't originate in New Orleans, but the French descendants there continued to have the pastry for Mardi Gras and added their own touches. The baby baked into the bread is a good luck token that represents the baby Jesus. People have different "prizes" for whoever gets the piece with the baby usually based on family tradition. Some people give a gift to the lucky person, others assign duties like hosting the next year's party, or providing the next year's King Cake.

it is called kings cake ! and it reps the turbins on the three wise men who followed the star to the manger where jesus was born ,and yes the figurin inside the roll represents baby jesus and if it is found that person receives a special blessing ! this is common on the 6th of january which is the time of arrival of the kings .some countries in europe and most latin give and receive gifts on this day instead of on christmas day ! ( i was lucky i get em on both ! )
