What is this green pesto like stuff I got from a local Greek restaurant?!

Question: I thought it was pesto, but it is super spicy. I like it, but I can't really tell what it is since the hotness takes over. Any ideas? Its bright green, just like pesto.

Ok, all of you. Wasabi, from a Greek restaurant?

Chimichurri sauce at a Greek Restaurant?

And what are gorgonzola beans???? Gorgonzola is an Italian Cheese! (ok, I'm pretty sure that was a brain fart on the part of the writer...you surely meant garbanzos? but how would they make something green?)

I′m guessing it's actually called Greek Pesto, and may have included oregano or mint, both pretty common in Greek foods. Can you check at the restaurant itself? Just get the name, then search it on the net, for a recipe or check out some greek cookbooks.

Let us know. I'm pretty sure it's just called Greek Pesto. I know I've had or seen it before. Don't remember burning like that. They must have some secret ingredient. Report It

  • Wasabi

It is called yummy green pesto like stuff!...it is so NOT wasabi though

probably wassabi or a variation on hummus the gorganzola beans might have been mixed with wassabi or a pepper for heat. There are also many ways to make pesto with or without the basil so it might have been a form of pesto but I doubt it.

    Good Luck

    It could be chimichuri sauce.

This garlicky sauce from Argentina is great spooned over beef or chicken.

    Servings: Makes about 1 cup.

1 cup (packed) fresh Italian parsley
    1/2 cup olive oil
    1/3 cup red wine vinegar
    1/4 cup (packed) fresh cilantro
    2 garlic cloves, peeled
3/4 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper
    1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
    1/2 teaspoon salt

Puree all ingredients in processor. Transfer to bowl. (Can be made 2 hours ahead. Cover and let stand at room temperature.)

    Bon Appetite
