Yes. Colombia is famous for them. They surface once a year and are red ants a little bigger than our black one. They are baked and are a treat in season. Salty and good.
Yeah tasty! j/k
Yes. I think they were from Mexico but I'm not sure. It was a candy and I guess the ants ate some kind of sweet honey substance until their bodies swelled with it and then they'd take the head and legs off. I thought they were good.
I've never had the dish you are talking about.
Chocolate covered ants are an internationally famous delicacy.
Chocolate coverd are especially good.
When you do field training in the military, you're taught to eat ants. I hear they're lemony.
Yes, in Colombia. They're called "hormigas culonas". That's "fat assed ants".
I once had a small, big-assed Colombian girlfriend. She liked me to call her "mi hormiguita culona".
Just an anecdote, though.
I understand they're being sold in Parisian restaurants for the price of caviar.
yes, they were chocolate covered. wasn't too bad
Yes in Mexico. They are a delicacy.
Ants eggs were fried and good. Honey ants were served raw. You are supposed to suck the honey out of the ants and not eating them. I was told that they are not dead and will make more honey material. Not appealing too me to do it. I did it as a respect to my host. I enjoyed the ants eggs though.
