Ever Tried Any Hog-Head?!
Answers: Cheese?
I love head cheese. but...........I have to dip it in vinegar first.
i once ate a slice off of a pigs nose on a spit
tasty
No but I have watched my grandmother make it my brother liked pickeled pig feet I never tried them.
Do you mean head cheese? Can be pretty good sanwich.
It is made by boiling a skinned, cleaned hog's head then letting it cool in a loaf mold. Sliced and on a coulpe slices of bread is actually tasty..
Edit: I did not say it is cheese, but that is what it is called. Similar to Souse. Used to see it in the deli at the grocery store all the time. Not anymore.
Also, before some wise guy says it won't fit I did not mean the head is put in the loaf pan. The bones are removed from the liquid and the meat and liquid are. The gelatin will firm up and make a loaf.
It's not a cheese at all...what self-respecting hog would have cheese in its head...unlike a few people I have to survive around...
It is a thin sliced meat like salami or balogna...different taste, but way good!
Yes! Hog head lechon (roasted on a spit until the skin is brown and crunchy) is very good.
Without a spit, the whole head is boiled in salted water, dried a bit and deep-fried until the skin is brown and crunchy.
Chinese style, the head is stewed slowly until tender with soy sauce, five-spice powder, star anise, ginger and beer or rice wine. Shiitake mushrooms or lily buds (dried banana flowers) could be added in the last five minutes of cooking.
Yes, and some are good and some are horrible. Varies greatly.
nope. Sounds interesting
