Aussies like Vegemite because we are clever mate!

How else can you get black teeth to scare grandma?

What else squeezes through the holes in a SAO sanger?

What else mixes with butter to form brown sludge on your toast.
It is also a wonderfully artistic addition to floor coverings and blank boring walls.

I am going to have some now. Foreigners will never understand until they have tried it on strawberries.

Jackson.

Im from UK ....we have MARMITE!!....the original and best.

I love Marmite...

Vegimite has a strange aftertaste....yuck!

In South Africa we have something called Marmite. It is very similar to Vegemite and we love it too.

In the U.S., most of us don't even have a clue what it is. Heard about it in a song in the 80's though. : ) Now, I have to google this and find out what it is. I don't even know if you can get it here.

Marmite is the same as Vegemite but it's called Marmite here in London...I like it.

i'm in the u.s. i've never hard of any of that. what exactly, is it?

I don't know why but there is some nasty lingering after taste with Vegemite, marmite is the only way to go.

I'm not an Aussie and I like Vegemite. Apart from spreading it on bread or crackers, you can make a hot drink with it - if you've left OZ or are unlucky enough to be in Melbourne or Tasmania in the winter. You can also add it to veggie soups. Sorry guys, I prefer it to Marmite.

I love vegemite! its good with cheese.. soo good..

I want some right now..

I think americans dont like it because it doesnt fit into their fat/sugar diets... Because they are not used to eating stuff like vegemite.. they probably put it on like peanut butter.. LOL

As with all foods it is an acquired taste. I think the reason that most Americans don't care for the taste is that we don't try it until we are adults and by then our taste buds are less accepting of "odd" flavors. I have indeed tried marmite and Vegemite but find them both too strongly flavored and a bit too salty. It is not really a case of not "fitting into the fat/sweet diet" I dare say I eat as healthfully as you Brits or Aussies. It's just a difference in food growing up. PS. I even tried some of the more exotic meats when I visited Australia

I think it has to do with what you were brought up eating. Each culture has things other cultures don't find appealing. In Cambodia--kids eat a certain type of bug like candy. They seek it out like kids would desire candy here. They say the bug taastes evil. Hmmmm interesting what is "good or bad".

Many people from outside Oz that I know who have tried vegemite have spread it too thickly. I'm with you, the best way to have vegemite is on hot buttered toast, spread really thinly so that the butter and vegemite spread together and make a golden black gooey liquid. That is just the absolute best!

My family likes to eat all of them...And we are from Thailand and Singapore.
