How are you supposed to eat fajitas?!

Question: When I go to a Mexican restaurant and order fajitas, I am given about a pound and a half of cooked meat and vegetables, along with a side plate of "salad" -- lettuce, tomatoes, refired beans, sour cream, and guacamole. Then they only bring me 2 tortillas. What is the proper way to eat this stuff?

Everyone eats them differently, I've been making them at home for years, so that you can only include what you want etc.

The most acceptable way to eat fajitas, typically, is spreading sour cream, salsa, and guacamole (if you like all three) on your fajita shell (also known as a flour tortilla), then down the middle...place the cooked meat/vegetable mixture. I also like to order a side of their shredded cheese because it adds a little something to the taste of the fajitas. Finally, you roll it up to where it looks like a thinner burrito

I'll be honest, most of the time the lettuce and the tomatoes are just garnish becaues i've never heard of anyone actually putting these ON their fajita and in my opinion, they take away from the taste of the marinated onions, peppers, and chicken or steak.

I would, however, ask for more tortillas, or if they charge you an arm and a leg, choose a mexican restaurant that gives you more than 2.. That might be what's throwing you off, because where i'm from you usually receive 4-5.

The beans and rice that typically comes on the side is, just that, for the side. You should eat those with a fork or sometimes I put sour cream and salsa in my beans and dip the chips that are already on the table into this new bean dip mixture.

Hope that helps!

They aren't very generous with those tortillas, are they? And they seem to always use the small ones rather than the ones intended for fajitas.

What you do is put some meat on the tortilla & add a few garnishes of your choice, fold one side in and then roll it. Eat & enjoy with lots of napkins. And do not be afraid to ask for more tortillas!

I use the flour tortillas and fill them with everything that is on the plate. Top it with guaquamole and sour cream.
That's how you eat it. If the restaurant brings you corn tortillas, just ask them for flour totillas.

You can eat it with or without the tortillas. You can always ask for more, if you like.

Now I want mexican food!

I usually can get four fajitas out of what they bring me. I load my tortilla up with the meat, onions, and peppers that come sizzling then I load them up with the sides I like (well for me thats everything...lol)

If I ever do run out then I always ask for more tortillas they usually bring more to you at no extra cost.

Very carefully. Seriously, take the warm tortilla, spread with your choice of sour cream, guacamole, or both, top with some of the cooked meat and vegetables making sure to leave room for folding. Top with the cheese, lettuce and tomato as well as salsa. Fold up the bottom then fold in each side to make a neat packet. If not over full it will actually be neat. Now, take a bite and eat from top to bottom. You will need napkins and yes, you will need to ask for more tortilla. I've yet to be charged for extras.

Mira se?or necesitas---- oh you speak English. Perdon. Excuse me.

Fajitas need the help of a good hot sauce. Pico de Gallo is the Northern mexico style of eating fajitas. Southern mexico is a red or green cooked salsa. I prefer corn over flour tortillas however everyone has there preference. Most restaurants serve shredded iceburg lettuce, but at home I use romaine its much better for you and I usually toss the lettuce with lime juice, Extra virgen Olive oil and Janes Crazy salt.

Guacamole should be eaten with corn chips or toasted corn tortillas from a comal. Sour Cream is an American addition and is not served in my home.

Here is a good recipe. You will find a few variations, but basically they are all the same.
