The British foods are more bland than American foods. American foods are a mixture of tastes, just as America is a mix of immigrants. We are very fortunate to have immigrants who have brought their foods with them and to share them with us. Restaurants are everywhere in USA and of every ethnic type. I prefer spicy, and even add more spice to Mexican hot/spicy dishes. I have a spicy sauce on my table at all times and add it to most foods. Even when living abroad, I had my sauce to spice things up.

Englanders have many stereotypes about America, and that is sad. Until we all walk in the others shoes, we don't know them that well, or unless we visit the countries. I have been in England, Scotland, Greece, Turkey, Holland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Andorra, Spain and all other places in Europe and love the foods in all places. Some more than others. I had the best trout in the world when in Andorra. I had wonderful schnitzels in Germany, and so on. We must all keep open minds with others, to learn about them, their foods and to become friends.

Americans eat MUCH spicier foods than the Brits do! But it varies around the country. I'd say more spiciness in the South and West, very mild food (ie: no flavor!) in midwest and North.

I like spicy flavors, but not too hot. I think it must be what your used to eating. I wish I could tolerate spicier foods, but I'm very sensitive.

As far as what the Brits think, you need to educate them. We all have preconceived ideas about people in other countries.

I LOVE SPICY FOOD!!! If its a spicy dish and it doesn't make me break a sweat it's probably not worth eating... even simple dishs I load up on pepper just to jazz it up. My dad and a guy I work with are the same... We'll take a dare just for something to do...

If all you do is visit chain restaurants in America, you will come to believe that most American food is pretty bland.

If you seek out independent restaurants featuring regional cuisine, you will see much more variety in the spiciness.

We're not real big on "curries" here, but I've had some Louisianna gumbo that lit my mouth on fire.

i don't like spicy foods to much mild ok but if it to spicy i can not eat it .

I love spicy foods, mostly Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, Caribbean, and South/Central American, but it's not something I could eat every day.

Brits could use a few pointers on their cuisine as far as I'm concerned.

America has so many people of different cultures that not one type of cuisine prevails over there and a lot of people just seem to think that all they eat are hot dogs burgers southern fried chicken and turkey.
but not so as you have Cajun creole TeX Mex and of course you have other cuisines such as Caribbean Asian Italian Turkish Greek Indian just to name a few so yes the Americans do eat a varied and exiting range of dishes from all over the world. so yes they do like spicey food

We have allot of spices foods, due to the Mexican dishes and Latinos, Tex Mex. etc.. I can keep going. I have a Porto Rican store on my block i love the fact that I can buy what i need, since I have been going I have been cooking more Latin American food.

A lot of Americans don't like spicy food, and a lot do. Many restaurants, and food packages then simply make the food not very spicy and let the customer add spices, or indicate in some way that the food is spicy.
Most "Americanized" spicy food seems mild when compared to the real thing.

I am an American and I have always enjoyed spicy food. My sister grew up in the same environment and she can't stand spicy food. It is all a matter of individual preference and what one is used to eating. I find that the hotter the climate, the spicier the food. That could be because peppers tend to grow in hot climates, thus is more readily available in areas like Louisiana, Central America, etc.

America is a large nation with many different flavors. American food has been influenced by many different cultures. It is so hard to categorize exactly what is the flavor of America. From my perspective it is both spicy and mild...flavorful and bland...it just depends on who's cooking! ;)
