My all time favorite is Eggplant stuffed with vegetables (Vinete umplute cu zarzavat).

For desert, I love Snow Storm cake (Prajitura Viscol) which is sort of a pudding cake.

SNOW STORM CAKE (Prajitura Viscol)
1/2 cup melted butter, 1 cup water, 1 cup flour, 5 eggs, shortening for the pan, extra sugar

Boil the butter with the water. Remove from heat, gradually add flour and keep stirring. Boil like a polenta, then set aside to cool. When only slightly warm, add the eggs one by one, mixing well. Grease a pan and pour the mixture in a layer the width of a matchstick. Sprinkle with some granulated sugar and bake. When done, cut into pieces. Note: the amount of sugar depends on your tastes. More for a dessert, less if using as a breakfast dish.

Have never tried it.

ZEE Romanian blood ees exquiszit. Dracula

Where do you eat this? I would love to learn, my boyfriend is Romanian, and would love to surprise him.

Great food. I collect cookbooks and have 3 Romanian cookbooks. I have made a few stews that were quite interesting and some pastries. Now that you reminded me, I think this weekend I will make something Romanian.

I'm romanian and I like some of these things. I'm also married to a romanian woman so I'm lucky to have them fairly often, but I still like a variety of foods. I'm not stuck on Romanian food. Heck, give me a good burger, or salmon, or shrimp or mexican food... there are lots of good choices besides romanian food.
Sarmale... - I could live without them, but I do prefer the ones wrapped in grape leaves or pepers.
mamaliga - I'm on a low salt diet and mamaliga tastes like cardboard without a lot of salt. Basically if you're eating a mamaliga that tastes good it is because of the bacon they put in it (which I can't have)
Mici - now here, i agree. I totally love them. they taste different than any other kinds of 'meatballs' or whatever you call it. And they go so well with some beer.
Salata de vinete (eggplant spread) - my wife makes the best.... this is an alltime favorite at my house. You have to grill the eggplants until they're really well charred. I just moved to the Southwest and plan to grow lots of eggplants.
Dobos - this is actually not at all a romanian food. It is hungarian (Dobos means "drummer" in hungarian - I'm half hungarian so I know).
My mother in law makes cozonac all the time... i love it.
My favorite cake is "Negresa" - which means "Black Lady" and it is made with coffee... it's to die for... it would give a Starbucks lover an orgasm, it's that good.
The other cake I like is called "Opera". Very good.
And then there's the "Savarine"... which I haven't had for quite a while ... hmm... I need to fix that problem :)

If you have romanian cooking questions, my wife can answer questions online.
