Chili Peppers, Jalapeno Peppers, HELP with pepper knowledge?!


Question: My understanding is a jalapeno pepper is a type of chili pepper...is this correct? I need help with types of hot peppers, a guide of hotness and the relationship of the two peppers (chili and jalapeno).

Darlin' there are tons of types of peppers.

Here's the best rule of thumb for you: the smaller the pepper, the hotter it is. thus: anaheims, really large, not hot. Jalape?os: much smaller, hotter. Sarranos: lots smaller, even hotter, and haba?eros, as mentioned above, among the hottest. (there have been some created in recent years that are even hotter.)

PS. don't mess with your contacts until you have washed your hands REALLY well. I speak from experience, here.

Jalapeno is a chile pepper. Want more heat? Try a habanero, just make sure to wash your hands well after handeling chiles :)

Chili peppers are graded by Scoville units. The more the Scoville units, the hotter the chili.
