Lo mein is not the same as chow mein. Chow mein noodles are fried, and you can't unfry them. Lo mein noodles are boiled. Outside of a specialty store, I don't know where you could find them. Smack-Ramen noodles could be re-hydrated and would make a substitute, although a pretty poor one compared to fresh.

Lo mein is a thinner type of noodle than your regular noodle type. You could try looking for it at a health food store, if not try the Chinese restaurants.

love stirfry...anyways, try looking for them in Asian/Orienetal markets/stores. I don't know any asian stores in your area, but you can google it....in the first paragraph of the link it tells you the difference between lo mein and chow mein noodles. good luck!

You should be able to find the noodles in the Asian section at your grocery store. If not, then an Asian speciality store. If you live in San Francisco just go to a market in China town. If you cannot find them you can use spaghetti in a pinch or buckwheat noodles too. It's the other ingredients and sauce that will make it lo mein.

I use the thin spaghetti and it works wonderfully in replacing the lo mein noodles!!!!

Lo mein is the thinny egg noodle which you can buy in grocery stores especially Asian markets. The difference between Lo mein and Chow mein is that Lo mein is not fried and chow mein is. They are the same type of noodle. It's good to go along with shrimp & veg. Either way to cook the noodle will still be tasty.
