Where can I buy hoisin sauce that is used in chinese Restaurants the supermarket one's are awful?!

Question: Everyone I know that owns a Chinese takeaway or restaurant (which is most of my friends) use the Lee Kum Kee brand. But they don't ever use it straight out of the tin. They add boiling water and sugar. You can do it to your taste.

Have you tried an Asian market?

Most cities have a china town with small shops or supermarkets in them. I have found that most of them sell the same stuff as the supermarkets, but they have lots of different not so well known brands as well, you can also buy lots of other interesting chinese/asian goodies. so even if you have to travel it may well be worth a visit.

Ask your local Chinese restaurant, they won;t mind.

Instead of trying a typical supermarket, try going to a Asian supermarket or even a mini-mart. Basically anywhere that sells specialty Asian products.

Though, I should mention that Chinese restaurants tend to use the cheapest oyster sauce, and usually buy them in bulk or in the large cans.

In my family, we usually buy the Lee Kum Kee (LKK) Panda Brand Oyster Sauce, if that helps. And we're Chinese.

Anyways, happy searching!

:)

well you can't
ALL restaurants have their secret recipes
