French food ideas?!

Question: Hi, as you may know, mardi gras is coming up. The people in my daughter's French class at school are having a mardi gras party. They can all bring some type of French food in for extra credit. We need to think of a French food that we can bring to school for the class party. I don't want to do anything over the top, but I would be more than happy to make something myself with my daughter. We would strongly prefer a French dessert, and please keep in mind that we must serve about 26 people. Please also give me the recipies. You can put on a link if you'd like. Thanks!

I guess you want creole french rather than classic bistro fare....

Beignets?

recipe below

ps

Madelines are a sweet idea but you have to buy those special pans which may be easy if you live in a big city but small town usa??? Plus, they are not creole and to be honest they taste like crap when they get cold. Just sayin'!

Make Madeleines. They are French lemon cookies that are soft and chewy, sort of like a mini cake. My grandma is French and use to make them and I made them for my French class and they were a big hit!!:

My grandma did an extra step where after she greased the pan she would put unflavored bread crumbs in the mold to give them more of a crust. So good and such good childhood memories for me.

I agree with the beinget.

If you want to do something funky you can do escargot. You can buy them in a can and make them at home with butter and garlic. It might not be a favorite, but it sure it very french and will get peoples' attention!

Try these Coffee Almond Profiteroles. There's no more caffeine in these than a regular thing of soda, so no worries:

how about fish and chips

Food Network has a link to Mardi Gras recipes (which are typically Cajun or Creole.)

crepes are usually pretty easy to make. go to foodnetwork.com and you could probably find a good recipe. as for a filling in my french class, alot of people bring them with a jar of nutella (chocolate hazelnut spread) or strawberry jam.
