Why do cannibals exist at all? Seems to me that they would all?!

Question: eat each other up and the last one standing would die of starvation. Right? Makes sense to me.

Answers: eat each other up and the last one standing would die of starvation. Right? Makes sense to me.

Did you know about the boy who lived on canibal island...........

He was 8 before he was 7.

They would have only dined on "other tribal members"... not each other

to shoot them out of canons

I don't think it works like that, they eat humans. That doesn't mean they create mass carnage. They might live in groups and eat other people from different tribes or villages.

hmmmm........ i guess your right kind of

Cannibals don't just eat other cannibals. There are a lot of people in the world...it'd take a long time for them to eat all of us!

Cannibals aren't open about being cannibals they hide it they eat people secretly so no one finds out. Any way what you said is stupid they wouldn't eat their own kind and there aren't even enough for that to happen.

It's fun for them, because they are seriously like sick in the head. Usually they have a different sort of belief, ritual, or religion that requires them to like eat other people and they enjoy killing others, and specifically eating them, who don't believe in what they do or live differently.

cannibals are pretty rare, and it's usually due to serious deprivation of food, like the crusades.

Cannibalism was usually ritualistic. Usually guided by taboos and stuff, like only eating people who had died of natural causes, or only eating people of other tribes.
It's not like they just ran around and kept killing people just so they could eat human meat.

Seems I heard they eat their captives to gain their strengths. They don't as a rule eat each other....then there are several tribes that eat their dead relatives as a way to keep them in memory. Ugh Of course that led to a whole new disease...the prions in the proteins attack the brains of those who eat them, causing their brains to break down. That is relative to mad cow disease.

it's usually only through necessity (as in ALIVE) or religion(some in India,Papua New Guinea etc)but generally people abhor it.

first off, cannibalism as a social norm is far different than cannibalism by necessity. Secondarily, there are only small groups of cannibals left in this day and age. Much cannibalism was more or less a means of warfare. Cannibals would capture and eat their enemies. Another reason for tribal cannibalism was the lack of food, and typically the tribe would eat their dead at a funeral. I think there is only one cannibalist tribe left to this day, but much history of cannibalism was propaganda used to prove tribe societies were insane, thus enslaved under laws of the period.

It is actually an interesting sociological phenomenon to study. Though your question sounds as if they are lurking in the bushes at bus stops and school yards looking for the one, weak fat kid to dine on, and that is not true.

Cannibalism has also lost it's populace in migration - I can't document it without the book, but there is a study that shows cannibals who migrated to another region where less threats and other foods were abundant, stopped practicing cannibalism.

than how come all the cannibal-like creatures in movies never eat each other even then they're starving? (think resident evil)
although life's not a movie...

The Aztecs were cannibals but they did it for ritual rather than for hunger. I believe in most societies that practiced cannibalism they did it for that reason. However, there have been accounts of people eating others to stay alive - i.e. the Donner party. I live in Colorado and we have a famous member - Alferd Packer.

In the 1870s, Alferd Packer was accused of killing and eating his travelling companions while crossing the Rocky Mountains (Colorado.) He served fourteen years in prison before being paroled on the basis of the Grandfather clause, as the alleged caniballism happened 6 years before Colorado became a state on Ute tribal land. Throughout his life he maintained that he was innocent of the murders. The story of Alfred Packer was satirically told in the Trey Parker comedy/horror/musical student film, Cannibal! The Musical. The main food court at the University of Colorado at Boulder is named the Alferd Packer Grill.

me too...but i do wonder what a human tastes like...

They only eat black people, they like dark meet.

read this book and you wil understand it is called Alive: The story of the Andes mountains surivivors, the last name of the author is Read, in this book they eat the dead bodies of the members of the plane that crashed to survive in the mountains

If God had not meant for Man to be cannibals, he wouldn't have made him/her out of meat.
