What's The Difference Between A Crumpet And A Pikelet?!

Question: Crumpets are generally circular though long and square varieties also exist. They have a distinctive flat top covered in small pores and a resilient, slightly spongy texture. Crumpets alone are bland and generally eaten hot with a topping (usually butter). Other popular accompaniments include jam, Marmite, marmalade, honey, peanut butter, cheese spread, golden syrup, or Vegemite (Australia).

A pikelet is similar to a crumpet, but thinner and sometimes irregularly shaped. (However, the meaning of pikelet varies: in some regions of India it traditionally refers to a crumpet, muffin or other teacake. In other British regions, Australia and New Zealand it refers to a Scotch pancake.) Another similar cake is the English muffin, which is cooked on both sides, tastes sweeter, and is not as moist.

Crumpets are more of a mouthful

A crumpet is a sort of bready cake thing and a pikelet is a baby fish.

they are sometimes a bit thinner, also if you live in the south you call them crumpets and pikelet is a northern expression.

Crumpets are fatter.

Pikelets are the same as crumpets but thinner. They look like those pancakes you buy in packets exept they have holes in the top.

A pikelet is wider and thinner than a crumpet, other than that they taste similar.

THEY ARE NOT THE SAME THING. I have this argument with my northern friend every time we meet. Crumpets are round, about 3/4 inch thick, with holes in the top. Pikelets are thinner, no holes and look like a scotch pancake. Go into Tescos and you will see both side by side and then you will know.
