So, what can I do with pita bread?!
I don't like hummus, though. Anything else?
Answers: I have about four or five "slices," and am not really sure what to do with them. Yeah, I could just but regular old sandwich toppings on them, but I would like something a little more authentic or interesting. (Especially since they taste rather plain.)

One of my favorite things to do with pita is this: Take them and split them in half into two round layers. Put those on a cookie sheet with the outer crust down. Cover with thin slices of tomato, then layers of thin sliced mushrooms, onions, green peppers, tiny raw broccoli florets & some bean sprouts. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt. Add some crumbled feta and sliced olives if you want. Sprinkle a handful of cheese on top - cheddar is fine, mozarella works too. Whatever is handy. Dust with a tiny bit of oregano. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes or so until everything is heated through and the cheese is melted.
toast'em open on 1 side and stuff with ham/salami, cheese, lettuce, tomato
I love pita bread. You could try putting peanut butter in the middle, thats always good for on the go snacks. I also love to make mini pizzas with them by just putting sauce, cheese, and some other toppings on them!
I like to put roast beef and dressing between two slices and it is really good.
of well, i was going to sasymake a mediterranean hummus dish, but what you can do is get this thing got flalafel which is also mediterranean and put it inside with sourcream veggies, cheese,m anything else you want or you can make taco stuffings, maybe get veggie meatballs(available at Costco and try that)
put some turkey, bacon lettuce tomato and avocado with some mayo and pepper! so good!!
Make a good hummas dip.. and have pita chips, but spice them up a bit.
spray (or brush) each pita slice w/a little olive oil if you have it, if not you can use canola or vege.
Sprinkle w/salt or garlic salt or anything that you like ( you can make 'em spicy too)
cut the pita bread up into pie like slices (or smaller).
bake until crisp at about 300 to 325
Hummas:
you will need a blendor or food processor
1 or 2 cans garbonzo beans
some olive oil (not much)
1 or 2 cloves of garlic or powder
lemon juice
pinch of salt
put garvonzo beans and garlic cloves in blendor and set on puree.
taste. add a little salt if need. add lemon juice and mix, then drizzle some olive oil in while the machine is on.. not much. taste again. once you get it to your liking enjoy!
I use my hummas as a spread on subs and as dips for veges.
Cut them in wedges (like a pizza) toast them, and use them for dipping. Also good for egg salad, tuna salad, pimento cheese, etc.
My very favorite thing to do is something that I made up while I was living in Israel. I don't know if you have any zatar, a really excellent israeli spice, but if you do, melt about 1/4 stick of butter in the microwave and mix in a spoon full of zatar. slice each pita in half (exposing the middle) and spread the butter zatar mix over, like you are making garlic bread. put it in the toaster until the edges start to brown and there you have it!
They taste just like delicious pita chips, and I am a very picky eater....if I like them, they are pretty good!
brush olive oil and garlic on them then toast them gently in the oven so you get garlic pita chips. Use them to make meatball sandwich pockets, pizza pocket sandwiches. Since you dont like hummus I wont offer as a choice, but what about ceaser chicken salad sounds good. Just experiemnt with what you have in the house, its part of the fun of cooking
get a bit of cream cheese. add some dill weed and lemon mix it up. spread it on then add a bit of ham and Dijon mustard with lettuce tomato bean sprouts and onion...
personally, I stuff them with stir fried veggies or onions with vegetarian cheese over the onions (after ripping the loaf in half and opening the pockets, of course).
Make a pizza with feta, black olives and tomatoes, drizzle on some evoo.
I love Pita toasted and served with the open pocket stuffed with lettuce and tomatoes and a touch of Mayo. My daughters love them toasted in the and filled with Peanut Butter and Jelly! We put them in the toaster oven, but I have on occasion put them on the griddle to heat up.
toast with olive oil, basil and Parmesan cheese and serve as bruschetta with tomato and mozzarella, or make a quesadilla, the chewy texture is a bit more satisfying than a tortilla!
