How to eat sushi?!

Question: Hi! I've always wanted to try sushi, so I bought a box at the store. It's in the freezer and I would like to prepare it tomorrow. Do I have to defrost it in the microwave or should I wait for it to melt out? At what temperature does it have to be eaten? The package contains nigiri, maki and california rolls. It also comes with soy sauce, wasabi and ginger. Where do they put these on the sushi? Oh and can all the parts be eaten? I'm confused, I would appreciate some help! Thanks! :)

I'm suprised that it was frozen. Usually, it's sold fresh and is simply stored in the refrigerator until ready to be eaten. If it is frozen, I don't think you should microwave it. Simply let it thaw on its own.

Wasabi is hot (kind of like horseradish). Be careful.
Not everyone likes ginger. It tastes like soap to some people. Try it to make sure you like it.
Soy is salty.

Most people put the soy into a small bowl and dip the sushi into it. Some people mix in a small amount of wasabi.

Yes. All the parts can be eaten - even the green wrapping which is seaweed and very good for you.

Here's a video showing how to eat it.

I am confused, too. Where did you buy frozen sushi, and why would you have frozen sushi? I have never heard of that, and I know cucumbers and avocado do not freeze well, at all. I would not put it in the microwave, and if you are heart-set on eating your frozen sushi, thaw it in the fridge. Sushi is served cold and FRESH, never frozen.

I would throw your frozen sushi out, that's just not right. Sushi from stores like Kroger/Fry's/Ralph's/King Super's or Safeway/Von's are absolutely nasty, and made with fake ingredients.

Go to Whole Foods and buy some sushi there, if you would like fresh, high quality sushi, but inexpensive. Better yet, find a good sushi restaurant.

you have two choices, you can eat the sushi with your fingers or with chop sticks - your choice.

You mix the Wasabi with the soy sauce. The proportion is really up to you, but I would start with a wee little bit of wasabi mixed in with your soy sauce, and then increase it until you find a blend you like. You dip your sushi piece (if you like it that way) in the soy sauce/wasabi mix, and eat it. The ginger is eaten between kinds of sushi or more or less like a side item, or you can put it in your sushi - it is to aid digestion.

Just put it out on the counter until it's defrosted. Mix a little soy sauce with the wasabi to use as a dip or use soy sauce alone if you don't like the bite of wasabi. The ginger is used to cleanse your palate between pieces of sushi. I know people will be outraged that the sushi is frozen, but you can still get the basic idea of sushi. For a really positive experience you need to have fresh sushi with fresh ingredients. Good for you- trying something new-be open to trying fresh sushi if you don't care for the frozen version and enjoy!

From what i've heard in what you wrote i think your saying you probably bought it fresh at the store and put it in your freezer when you got home. Well from that i think sushi isnt suppose to be put in the freezer because the rice is not gonna soften up, it's gonna stay hard. But if i'm wrong then i yes all the parts can be eaten and the best way to me to serve wasabi is to mix the wasabi and soy sauce together to make a really good sauce that is safe to eat by little ones(depends on how much soy sauce you put) and it doesnt give that nose stinging sensation/horror (LoL) as bad. I dont know about the ginger but you usually dip the sushi in the wasabi with chopsticks or your fingers which ever one you prefer and eat away!! =]

Frozen sushi!? YIKES. Sushi is one of those items that you have to eat fresh. Its like putting a salad in the freezer...it just won't work.

Go out and find a good sushi restaurant and just buy it by the piece. You can ask them to help you pick out what you think you will eat. I would try a white fish or a tuna if you want meat in it. Take the soy sauce and put it in the bowl they provide. I always add a tiny bit of wasabi to the soy, mixing it up and then dip the sushi in it. The ginger is to cleanse your palate. I love it...you may not.

Good luck trying...I think its awesome you are willing to try something new. I HATE when people say ewww to something they have never tried!

you don't thaw a frozen sushi. it has to be eaten fresh. the fresh out of the bar fresh. i'm not sure if you can still eat thawed sushi. the rice and fish would be soaked and feel unnatural to eat.

I'm with KCgirl. Throw out whatever you have in the freezer. First of all, it must be made and eaten fresh. Don't microwave it. Some sushi items are cooked but again must be fresh. And kudos to you for being willing to try sushi, it is one of my all time favorites. But if you are going to try it the first time, don't buy the grocery store stuff. Go to a sushi bar, sit at the bar so you can watch and speak with the sushi chef. Tell him it is your first time and have him start you with something basic, California roll, tekka (tuna), spider roll (cooked tempura soft shell crab). If you're okay with those then he can move you up. Wasabi is a very spicy horseradish so be sparing until you get used to it. And typically sushi rolls are dipped in a bit of soy sauce. But some rolls have their own sauce. If you go on a night when they are not too busy and you appear open minded to the sushi chef, I'm sure you will have a great experience. And be prepared this is not an inexpensive cuisine, but well worth it. Hope you fall in love with it.

Frozen sushi has been avalibale for a long time,Our company sells them, however you do not defrost them , speciale packafing allow customers to cook sushi for 2 minutes and test as good as fresh sushi.
