Hi Sweet Judy,
Lol Lol I don't know Judy but i found this to be really funny to me.. How would it sound to us here in The USA.. I want to invite you over for some Spotted Dick.. Now Judy be honest here what would you really thing My Friend.. Lol Lol..
A Friend,
poppy1

This is just a steamed pudding with currants, nothing strange except for the name (which sounds like something with STD).

oh yes without hesitation i would serve this as a desert with custard a spotted dick is a steamed pudding with currants sultana,s raisins and is Delicious .
i think you Americans must think that the dick is something that is part of the male anatomy ? no it is not and try to remove ones mind from the gutter as we British have indeed enjoyed spotted dick for century's mind you it has raised a titter or two amongst the school children

As a chef I have made it several time, I like to have it with the jam in the middle, and funny enough I do not mind the tinned Heinz one. I had to pick up some on my last trip to the UK and bring it home, my grandmother used to make it for us when we were just little scuppers, she was from Liverpool (I am a distant relative of Ringo).

Here in Canada when I was a chef I worked in the province of Newfoundland, and they have a similar pudding steamed (Figgy Duff) and serve with a boiled meat and veg dinner called "Jiggs Dinner", it is alot like the SPDk, but no jam, and you cannot have SPDk without either custard or cream.

Only thing is here in Canada it is harder to get Self-Rising flour, so you have make sure to add the baking powder, but all the other ingredients are here, I prefer to use the veg suet from the UK, I get it at British food shop here otherwise I use melted veg shortening and bit of marg.

My friend Sam S. would be all over this one! I'll star your question.Hopefully he bites!

When my sister went to England.....She brought me a canned one back because she knew I would not believe her otherwise.,...
BTW.....The Spotted Dick was quite yummy!
Peace.

penicillin should take care of that

heh heh she said "dick"

I hear it's a favorite Of Queen Elizabeth AND Elizabeth Hurley... not to mention Elton John.

They also enjoy bangers & mash.

It is real food but i dunno what it is. Interesting name for one though, makes one blush.

No, because it has raisins.

I saw a jar of it in the grocery store (Giant Eagle) in an upper class neighborhood in the "British" section...

Sounds delightful! Sounds erotic! I will let you take the first bite!!!

Sure I'll have some. When and where?

Well, Judy, as you well know, I am a lady of the Southern USA. So,
unfortunately, until you posted a previous question about some of the dishes that people in the U.K. commonly eat, I had never heard
of this dish before. But if it is only a steamed pudding with raisins, currants, and cream, I would certainly be willing to try it, if you will try it with me.

As you have seen, it really is food! It sounds rather yummy and I would be willing to give it a try, but would not list it on my menu but leave it as a surprise!

Ha ha. I like Dick. Seriously, its actually a really nice dish with custard, but its probably best to call it Spotted Richard to be on the safe side!
