E Asian red/black rice (healthy) - what's it called?!?!

Question: A couple of years ago I was in south korea and ate out a lot at different restaurants.

Alot of the time we were served a different kind of rice that was red and sometimes black; also I think there was a kind with beans and maybe barley as well.

Does anyone know the name of this kind of rice?

I'd like to google recipes for it (also had it in japan, as well)>

Thanks!

The black rice is called "forbidden rice."

You can get it at Whole Foods.

In the Philippines, we have a black rice which is actually very dark violet. It is called Pirurutong and is the kind that's sticky. During the Christmas holiday season, when people go to church in the middle of the night, this rice is used to make a delicacy called Puto Bumbong (rice cake steamed inside a bamboo tube).

Pirurutong is not cooked like ordinary rice but is alays used to make sweetened rice cakes with grated coconut or coconut cream.
