Well... sushi is the most popular... but I hope you all know that sushi is just a general term, there is many different kinds of sushi.

For a school presentation I would suggest: (these first three were some of my favorites)

+ maki nori (which is the common sushi)

+ okonomiyaki

+ nikujaga (which is supposed to mean 'mother's love'

+ miso soup (which is served with almost every meal, at least in some households)

and last but certainly not least.

+ rice

When I was in Japan I ate rice every day, some times three times a day. In fact, the word meal 'gohan' is the word for rice. It's served when you wake up with egg or nori (seaweed), packed in your lunch, and always accompanies whatever else at dinner. Families have their own rice fields out in the country in some cases, and the fields are tucked in to every available space.

Good luck with your project! There is lots of Japanese cuisine!

A basic breakfast would be a hot bowl of rice drizzled with a raw egg and soy sauce mixture, MMM.

Tempura,is a real nice japanese dish, but the #1 dish in Japan is sushi

Sushi is popular, but I'd say Ramen noodles are even more popular. Think of top ramen from the supermarket, but a thousand times better tasting and topped with many different delicacies, such as roasted pork, raw egg, seaweed, fried shrimp, or my favorite- Curry.

Sushi must be the most popular Japanese culinair. It is so identic to Japanese although Koreans have sushi as well. Adding to that I would suggest to include: Gyoza (really really delicious!!), Yakitori (not as super delicious as Indonesian's satay but it is nyummy), and sashimi..

Tempura, Sushi, Sashimi, Yakisoba, Yakitori, Yakiniku, Oden, Udon, Somen, Takoyaki.
