Can you help me identify this shell-fish?!

Question: I have to record everything i eat for a school assignment and today, i ate this weird shell-fish thing.
My parents don't know the english name of this shell-fish but in cantonese, it is called "bau yoon" i dont speak chinese very well so i cant translate what it means. My parents said the shell-fish was rare and expensive because there's some law that only allows fishermen to fish them out of the sea when they are large or something.
the shell-fish was chewy and light brown. (it was really good, btw) and my parents said that the shell is flat on one side and kind of humped and crinkly on the other. LOL that's the best i can do to explain it.

appreciate the help (:

Sounds like abalone to me...

maybe it was an oyster?

mussels perhaps...

I looked on wikipeda and google. I couldn't find anything. Find out where your parents got it. Maybe the store will have an employee who knows the English name. Or, you can buy one and take it to a seafood restaurant and see if the Chef can identify it.

its bao yu its an abalone =]

In Chinese speaking regions, abalone are commonly known as bao yu, and sometimes forms part of a Chinese banquet.

Its not abelone is it?? I dont know about the translation though!

Abalone is chewy and light brown, but it has only one shell.

It is Abalone...
