What are the main courses of Italian cuisine?!

Question: I already know about the antipasto course, but I was wondering if anyone knows a lot about the First (Primi) Course, the Second Course, or Dolce (Dessert). Any important information about them would be great, but I don't need recipes.

Thanks!

Being italian, I think the best way for me to answer it is if you're talking authentic italian, not like in a restaurant. Usually at home we only have formal courses during holidays. You're right in the names, but sometimes things go in between. To start, usually we have antipasta, which is a combo of cheese, rolled meat, anchovi's, lettuce, roasted peppers, olives, carrot sticks, and celery sticks, all dressed w/ italian dressing. Then we usually have a small plate of pasta (sometimes 2 stuffed shells even) or a soup. To cut the taste between the pasta and the next course usually we have a tiny bowl of sherbert (rainbow), haha. After that we typically have a dish of meat, which is usually a roast pork or roast beef w/ gravy...yes....brown gravy. That's all followed by desert, which italians always have way too much of to choose from. In my family of 9, we probably have about 4 or 5 deserts to choose from.

Hope that helps a little.
