most of what ppl think is raw is steamed to keep diseases/bacteria down

i love sushi as well.

tempura is great

there is a roll that a local place makes with tempura shrimp rolled with cucumber with thin layers of tuna and salmon on top - a thin layer of avocado and a not tooo spicy sauce drizzled over~
oh sooo yummy

i could live on the stuff and never get tired of it. so many choices! the combos are endless

sushi doesn't have to contain raw fish to be called sushi-i have had it with cooked eel and i have had it with avocado but maybe that's just a cali thing

it is a common misconception that sushi means 'raw fish'. sushi means 'vinegared rice (with toppings)'. so you can have vegetarian sushi, sushi with cooked fish, tempura, whatever. it is all still sushi. if you're just having raw fish on its own it's called sashimi.

Sushi is not all about rawness. There's sushi topped with a sweet scrambled egg (Tamago Sushi), Steamed Shrimp (Ebi Sushi), Smoked Baby Eel (Unagi Sushi) and others.

Try ordering these when you next eat at a Japanese restaurant.

Your favorite "Tempura Sushi Roll" is a kind of sushi too.

Sushi means "vinegared rice with fish (cooked or raw) or vegetables or whatnot (meat, egg, seaweed etc.) or the combination of fish and vegetable or the combination of meat and vegetable".

For instance, Kappamaki is vinegared rice with sliced cucumber, and Inarizushi is vinegared rice in small pouch of fried tofu, and they're sushi without doubt.
My favorite is Yakiniku makizushi, which has BBQ meat and lettuce and cucumber and mayo inside. This is a kind of sushi too.
Also, in Japan, we have Chirashizushi. Basically, Chirashizushi is vinegared rice in a box or bowl with variety of fish or vegetables (Or fish and vegetables both) scattered on top or mixed in. This is sushi as well.

As you see, we have all kinds of sushi and sushi doesn't have to have raw fish to be sushi.
