How is this word pronounced?!

Question: Biscotti
i say the o is like in got or bought
A friend says the o is like in goat or coat.
Her mother in law is Italian and swears that is the way it said. i just have NEVER heard it pronounced that way even from other friends who are Italian or visited Italy. Wondering if any one here knows the proper pronunciation? Thanks so much

I, too, pronounce it with the letter o sounding like got or bought. The source link below has a pronounciation link included to hear for yourself (and to share with your friend).

you are correct. the o sounds like got

i say it your way.
i think thats the proper way,
but it doesnt matter.
noone says everything the same.
for example,
i say CAMbridge.
and my friend says CAMEbrudge.
and we always fight about the proper way.
but w/e as long as you know what your talking about its good right?

short O as in got.

its the o like got! she is totally wrong, Italian peeps say it like the o in goat or coat but in America its the o in the word got! welcome!

McKenzie

you're right, she's not.

I've always said it like the o in got, but I've always heard that it's supposed to be the o in coat. I'm just too lazy to correct my pronunciation.

according to dictionary.com:

bis·cot·to /bi?sk?tt?; Eng. b??sk?to?/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[bee-skawt-taw; Eng. bi-skot-oh] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun, plural bis·cot·ti /bi?sk?tti; Eng. b??sk?ti/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[bee-skawt-tee; Eng. bi-skot-ee] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation. Italian. a cookie or cracker.

it appears to be both.

You are correct

Biss-cot-ee

Biss like bliss minus the 'l'
Cot like that fold out bed
Eee like "eeee! a mouse"

itrs like this

Bizz- caught- e

Americans generally say "bis-COT-tee"

I've heard Italians say "bis-COAT-tee"

Either is fine.

bis -cott- i (like ) bis - hot -ti, you win, do the victory dance..
I'll do it with you , i'll do it with you.. nananana

I beleive the pronounciation depends on what region of Italy you are from. Ive heard it pronounced both ways. Like alot of languages there are different dialects.

Biscuity or Biscuitee :p ...ha..ha...

as it is

"O" is spelled like in "got", with an "open" sound, not like in "coat".
Bees cot tee
This the only correct way to spell it in Italian, any other is wrong Italian unlike English is a phonetic language, so there's only one way to correctly spell a word.
